Last week we were small but mighty; folks are vacationing near and far! One professor sent his greetings from Europe and wanted us to know he is currently reading Not for Profit: Why Democracy Needs the Humanities by Martha Nussbaum; and Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman.
Another bibliophile unable to join us because she’s traveling read Country of the Pointed Firs by Sarah Orne Jewett and a book about cadavers and how they’re helpful in scientific and safety research! She’s also revisiting an old, treasured classic, The Acts of the Apostles by Ellen G. White.
We had an interesting discussion on the different forms of books (print, audio or electronic) and what that means for the reader/listener. One person, who uses all 3, suggested the story “shines” in the written word, the characters “shine” in the audio books. Does the format make a difference in what you remember? What you comprehend?
However you feel about Amazon.com, “1-click” has changed our book-buying habits forever.
After searching for a book on Amazon.com, many of us scroll down to see the “Customers who bought…also bought” feature, opening up a range of additional interesting, potentially relevant works. This becomes yet another powerful “research and discovery” tool we discuss in our library instruction classes. Know the “aggregated preferences” of savvy consumers worldwide…
